As you can see from the video below, a suitable lamp at the top of upright pianos can actually do wonders for your playing.
Why is this the case?
This is because for most houses in Singapore, whether you live in a sprawling bungalow or an average flat, most Singaporeans only install ceiling lamps. Not many people install table top lamps, other than at their work desk.
However, when it comes to playing the piano, especially at the higher grades where notes on the score sheet can look complicated, it is difficult to read the score if it is not well-lit. Sometimes you may easily misread the score due to poor lighting. Additionally, you have to squint if lighting is dark wherever you place the piano (especially because pianos are typically not recommended to be placed near any windows).
Installing a lamp specifically built for upright pianos is a great idea in this case if you have not already done so!
